2017 will mark the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Dutch art movement known as De Stijl. This will be celebrated in the Netherlands in the theme year titled Mondriaan to Dutch Design. Many designers and architects have been influenced by De Stijl in the past and it still inspires artists to this day. Numerous exhibitions and events in 2017 will bear witness to the legacy of De Stijl artists such as Mondriaan, Rietveld, Van der Leck and Van Doesburg. This will be combined with the work of leading modern-day designers.
The Northern Netherlands region will also be joining in this jubilee celebration! During the Mondriaan to Dutch Design theme year, Museum Dr8888, the Princessehof National Museum of Ceramics in Leeuwarden and RLS Eelde will be presenting a wide range of exhibitions centring on De Stijl and Dutch Design and focusing on colour and light.
